CHOCOLATE CHERRY SURPRISE CAKE

Category: Cakes

1 box devil food cake mix, plus ingredients on the box
1 can chocolate frosting
1 box Jello no bake cheese cake, plus ingredients on the box
1 can cherry pie filling

Bake box cake mix according to package directions in two 8 inch cake pans, cooled completely before proceeding to the next phase. Once cooled, take one cake out of pan and shave off top to make it level. Then, about 1/2 inch from the edge, cut a circle. Only let knife go about half way into cake. After you carve circle, remove cake within circle. You should be left with a hollowed out cake with 1/2 inch sides and about 1/2 inch on the bottom. Set that cake aside.

Take second cake out of pan. You don't need to shave top off this one. You will de-cake this one as well, but not take as much cake out. I suggest starting an inch from sides of cake and cutting diagonally so you end up with a cone like shape. Set this cake aside.

Open cherry pie filling and set it next to the cakes. Prepare no bake cheese cake. Immediately after you're done pour mixture into first cake. Quickly add a layer of cherry pie filling to top and then set second cake on first. Quickly pour remainder of cheese cake into second cake. Top with a generous amount of cherry pie filling. The cherry pie filling should form a circle on top of cake that goes out to about an inch from the sides. Then frost sides of cake. Be very generous with frosting. On top, frost bare edges around cherry pie filling. Chill for about an hour before serving to allow cheese cake to set.
