BAKED ASPARAGUS SUPREME

2 lbs fresh asparagus
1/2 cups chopped onion
2 tbsp butter, melted
2 tbsp flour
1 (8 oz) carton sour cream
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
Snap off tough ends of asparagus. Place asparagus in a vegetable steamer over boiling water; cover and steam 8 to 10 minutes or until crisp-tender. Arrange asparagus in a lightly greased 13x9 inch baking dish. Set dish aside.
Saute onion in butter in a small saucepan over low heat; add flour stirring until smooth. Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Add sour cream, salt, and pepper, stirring well. Cook over medium heat until thoroughly heated (DO NOT BOIL). Spoon over asparagus. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes. Sprinkle top evenly with shredded cheese, and bake an additional 5 minutes or until cheese melts.
