PENNE RIGATE WITH MEAT SAUCE PEPERONATA

1 lb lean ground beef
1 cup finely chopped onion
28 oz. can whole tomatoes, undrained and chopped
15 oz. can tomato sauce
1 7oz. jar roasted red pepper, drained and chopped
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried oragano
1/2 tsp garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
1/2 box (8oz) Penne Rigate, cooked according to package directions
Grated Parmesan cheese

While pasta is cooking, in the large saucepan, over medium heat, cook the meat and onion until the meat is browned. In the meantime, drain and slice the tomato. Add the tomato, red pepper, tomato sauce, and seasonings to the meat and onion mixture. Heat to boiling, and cook 30 minutes, uncovered. Stir in pasta and sprinkle with cheese.
