CRANBERRY APPLE BAKE

1 lb (3 medium) granny smith or other cooking apples, cored and coarsely chopped
3/4 cup cranberries, coarsely chopped
1/3 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped
1 cup sugar, divided
1/4 cup raisins
1/2 tsp finely shredded fresh orange peel
1/4 tsp ground allspice
1 egg
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp almond extract
1/8 tsp salt
Sweetened whipped cream or vanilla ice cream

Generously butter a 9 inch deep dish pie plate; set aside. In a large bowl, combine apple, cranberries, walnuts, 2/3 cup sugar, raisins, orange peel and allspice. Spread mixture evenly in the bottom of the pie plate; set aside.

For topping, in a medium bowl, combine egg, flour, melted butter, 1/3 cup sugar, extracts and salt. Beat until smooth. Spoon batter evenly over fruit mixture. Bake at 350 for 40-45 minutes or until topping is brown and wood toothpick inserted in center to topping comes out clean. Cool slightly in pie plate on a wire rack. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream. Serves 8
