PUMPKIN PUDDING CAKE

1 yellow cake mix, reserve 1 cup
3/4 cup butter
4 eggs
1 (29 oz) can plain pumpkin, not pie filling
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1 cup sugar, divided
1/2 cup brown sugar
2/3 cup milk
1 cup chopped nuts
Preheat oven to 350. Butter bottom of a 13x9 inch baking pan. Using a pastry blender, mix together the cake mix (less the reserved 1 cup), 1 egg and 1/2 cup butter. Press evenly into the bottom of the pan. In a mixing, combined the pumpkin, 3 eggs, spices, brown sugar, 1/2 cup of white sugar and milk. Mix well and pour evenly over the cake mix layer in pan.
In a small bowl, mix together reserved cake mix, 1/4 cup butter and 1/2 cup sugar. Sprinkle evenly over the pumpkin mixture. Sprinkle with chopped nuts. Bake for 1 hour and test for doneness with a toothpick. If toothpick doe not come out clean, return to over to an additional 10-15 minutes.
