1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 3/4 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt and baking soda
48 maraschino cherries, well drained on paper towels
Dipping chocolates
1 cup melted white chocolate and 2 tbsp butter
1 cup melted dark chocolate and 2 tbsp butter
Finishing Touches
Finely chopped pecans
Slivered whit chocolate
Chocolate jimmies
Flaked coconut
Preheat oven to 350. Cream first 5 ingredients until fluffy. Combine dry ingredients and beat into creamed mixture on low speed. Mix well. Form dough into a very thin layer and top half of the dough with the cherries. Fold the dough over and seal the cherries between the layers of the dough. Cut with a small round biscuit cutter and place on an ungreased baking sheet. Remove to cooling racks. Cool completely.
Prepare dripping chocolate by melting the chocolate and butter and stirring until smooth. Drop cookies into the chocolate one at a time, using a fork to turn. Cover completely with chocolate and lift cookie out of the chocolate, draining off excess. Place on a cooling rack with wax paper underneath to catch drippings. Sprinkle with one of the finishing touches while chocolate is still we. Place a sheet of waxed paper on baking sheet and transfer the cookies with a spatula to baking sheet. Chill in refrigerator to set chocolate.
