CHOCOLATE TORTE

1 pkg chocolate cake mix
2 (4 oz) pkgs German sweet chocolate
3/4 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup chopped toasted almonds
1 (8 oz) container whipped topping, thawed

Prepare cake as directed. Bake in 2 greased and floured 9 inch layer pans. Cool. Split layers horizontally. Melt 1 1/2 pkgs chocolate in saucepan over low heat. Cool and beat in butter. Add almonds.

Make chocolate curls with remaining chocolate. Spread 1 cake layer with half the chocolate mixture; top with second layer and half the whipped topping. Repeat layers; garnish with chocolate curls. Chill at least 1 hour before serving.
