SPICED APPLE SAUCE COOKIES

1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 cup chopped nuts and raisins

Cream together the shortening and sugar. Add egg; mix thoroughly.

Sift flour, then measure. Sift measured flour with salt, baking soda, baking powder, and spices.

Add dry ingredients to creamed shortening and sugar, alternating with applesauce, then dry ingredients, etc, until all is combined. Stir in raisins and nuts. Drop by tbspfuls onto lightly greased cookie sheets and bake at 375 for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden along edges.
