APPLE PANDOWDY

1 pie crust
8 cups peeled, cored and sliced baking apples
1 1/2 cups real maple syrup
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger
5 tbsp butter, melted
Whipped cream or ice cream

Preheat oven to 350. Heavily butter an 11x7 inch baking dish. Roll dough out 1/4 inch thick and cut into 1/2 inch strips. Spread apples along bottom of dish and drizzle with maple syrup.

In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar and spices. Sprinkle mixture on top of apples. Lay pastry strips over apples in a latticework and brush with butter. Bake for 1 hour or until apples are soft and crust is golden brown.
