LEMON MOUSE PILLOW CAKE

1 white cake mix plus water, oil and eggs as called for on cake mix directions
1 can lemon pie filling
1 can ready to spread lemon flavored frosting
1 tub of Cool Whip
Cake: Mix cake as directed on box and pour into a 9x13 pan. Place spoonfuls of lemon pie filling in blobs over batter.
Bake as directed on the box. Let cool completely. Cake batter covers blobs, so there will be pockets of lemony filling inside.
Frosting: Mix frosting and Cool Whip together and spread on cake. This does need to be kept refrigerated.
Variation: Grease bottom only of 2 (8 or 9 inch) round pans. Make and bake the cake mix as directed on pkg. Cool for 10 minutes. Loosen cake from sides of pans and remove to cool completely, approximately 1 hour. Place 1 layer, rounded side down on serving plate. Gently stir pie filling into frost in a bowl. Spread 1 cup of lemon mixture to within 1/4 inch of edge. Top with second layer and from side and top of cake with remaining lemon mixture. Store loosely covered in the refrigerator.
