COUNTRY STYLE SPARERIBS

2 tbsp oil
4 lb spareribs, in serving pieces
1 (16 oz) can tomato puree
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
1/4 lb sliced mushrooms
2 tsp basil
1 tsp salt and oregano
1/4 tsp pepper and sugar
3/4 cup water
Hot cooked spaghetti
Heat oil in a Dutch oven. Add ribs and cook until browned on all sides. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil; cover and reduce heat, and simmer until meat is tender, about 1 1/2 hours. Arrange meat on a platter; skim and discard fat from sauce. Serve with spaghetti. Serves 6
