ALMOND MINI CHIP SHORTBREAD

1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (mini chips if you can find them)
1/4 teaspoon baking powder

Heat oven to 350. Grease a 13x9 inch baking pan. In large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add flour, baking powder, and almond; blend well. Stir in chocolate chips. Pat batter into pan. Bake 30 minutes (or until golden). Cool in pan on wire rack 10 minutes. Cut into bars (but do not remove from pan yet). Cool completely in pan on wire rack, then remove bars. Makes about 36 shortbread bars
