CHOCOLATE ALMOND SHORTBREAD

1 cup unsalted butter
1/2 cup sugar
3 oz milk chocolate, melted
2 cups flour, sifted
1/2 cup chopped almonds, toasted

Cream butter until fluffy; beat in sugar. Stir in chocolate. Gradually beat in flour. Stir in almonds. Pat dough into a 1/2 inch thick rectangle on an ungreased baking sheet.

Prick top all over with the tines of a fork. Score top with knife tip into serving-size squares or rectangles. Bake at 350 until firm and delicately browned (about 30 minutes). Cool slightly on baking sheet; remove to wire rack. Cut into bars. Makes 1 1/2 dozen cookies.
