* NAVY BEAN SOUP*

1 (1 lb) smoked ham steak, diced
2 medium onions, chopped
1 carrot, shredded
4 (16 oz) cans navy beans, undrained
1 (14 oz) can chicken broth
1 cup water
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 tsp thyme
1/4 tsp black pepper

In a large soup pot, combine the ham, onions, and carrot and saute over medium-high heat for 3 to 5 minutes, or until the onions are tender. Add the remaining ingredients to the pot; mix well. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, or until heated through. Serves 10-12
