CHOCOLATE ANGEL FOOD DESSERT

1 angel food cake
1 (12 oz) pkg chocolate chips
2 tbsp sugar
3 eggs, separated
2 cups whipping cream
1 tsp vanilla extract
Slivered almonds, toasted

Tear cake into small pieces. Melt chocolate and sugar in a double. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. Set aside.

Whip cream. Beat egg yolks until pale yellow. Add to chocolate and cool for a few minutes. Fold in egg whites into chocolate mixture. Add whipped cream and vanilla.

Layer cake pieces and chocolate mixture into a buttered 3 quart bowl. Sprinkle almonds on each layer. Chill for several hours before serving. Serves 8-10
