* CHOCOLATE EARTHQUAKE CAKE *

1 box German chocolate cake mix
1 (3.5 oz) can sweetened flaked coconut
1 cup chopped nuts
3/4 cup chocolate chips, optional
1/4 to 1/2 cup butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 (8 oz) pkg cream cheese, softened
1 (16 oz) box confectioners sugar

Preheat oven to 350. Grease a 9 inch baking pan. Cover the bottom of the pan with the nuts and coconut.

Prepare cake batter according to pkg instructions. Pour cake batter in prepared pan. Melt butter in a bowl. Add the cream cheese, confectioners sugar and vanilla extract. Stir to blend. Spoon over unbaked batter and sprinkle with chocolate chips. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes.

NOTE: You can not test for doneness with this sticky cake. The icing sinks to the bottom while baking and makes a gooey white ribbon throughout. Serve in a bowl with whipped cream.
