STEAK PIZZAIOLA

1-1/2 tbsp olive oil
3 lb boneless chuck or sirloin steaks, 3/4 inch thick
1 onion, sliced
1 bell pepper, cut into strips
1 (8 oz) pkg mushrooms, quartered
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes, undrained
1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
1/4 to 1/2 cup sweet vermouth or white wine
1/2 tbsp oregano
1/2 tbsp basil
Salt and pepper to taste
Grated parmesan cheese

Garnish:
1 small can sliced black olives, drained
Grated parmesan cheese

Heat the oil in a large, deep skillet. Cut the steaks into serving size pieces. Sear the steaks in the hot oil on both sides. Add the onion, bell pepper, garlic and mushrooms. Cook for a minute or two. Add the remaining ingredients, stir and bring to a simmer. Sprinkle with cheese. Cover and cook until meat is very tender, about 2 hours. Serve the extra sauce with pasta or rice. Garnish with olives and cheese. Serves 6-8
