STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE WITH CREAM CHEESE SAUCE

2 cups sliced strawberries
1 tsp sugar
1/2 cup flour
3/4 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp cream of tartar and baking soda
2 tbsp butter
1/4 cup buttermilk or sour milk
Sugar
1 recipe Cream Cheese sauce or 3/4 cup whipped cream

Grease a baking sheet and set aside. In a bowl, stir together the strawberries and sugar. Set aside.

For dough, in a medium mixing bowl, stir together the dry ingredients and cut in the butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients, and then add the buttermilk all at once. Using a fork, stir just until moistened. Drop the dough into 2 mounds onto the prepared baking sheet and sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 450 for 10-12 minutes or until golden. Split the shortcakes into 2 layers. Place bottom layers into 2 individual bowls and spoon some strawberries and cream cheese sauce on top. Add top layers. Spoon more strawberries and the remaining cream cheese top or whipped cream. Serve immediately.

Cream Cheese Sauce: In a bowl, stir together 1/4 cup sour cream, 2 tbsp cream cheese and 1 tsp sugar until smooth.
