SWEET POTATO PECAN BREAD

1 cup crushed or chopped pecans
1 cup light brown sugar
2 tsp baking soda
1-8 oz. pkg cream cheese
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup butter
1 tsp cinnamon
4 eggs
1/2 tsp allspice
2 cups mashed sweet potatoes
1/2 tsp baking powder
2 1/2 cups flour
Cream sugar, cheese, and butter until well blended and light. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Blend in mashed sweet potatoes. Add the dry and mix until just moistened. Pour into 2 greased and floured bread pans and bake at 350 for about 1 hour and 10 minutes-check after an hour, testing with toothpick.
NOTE: I have used canned sweet potatoes that have been drained and mashed or fresh sweet potatoes that have been boiled, baked or microwaved and mashed.
