1 pkg German chocolate, devils food, chocolate fudge supreme, milk chocolate or sour cream chocolate supreme cake mix
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup water
2 eggs
3/4 cup finely chopped nuts
Chocolate Glaze (below)
1/4 cup finely chopped nuts
Preheat oven to 350. . Grease and flour jelly roll pan. Mix together the cake mix, brown sugar, butter, water and eggs in large bowl until smooth. Stir in the nuts and spread in pan. Bake until top feels firm when touched, 17 to 20 minutes (do not over bake). Run knife around edges while warm to loosen sides, cool. Spread with Chocolate Glaze, sprinkle with 1/4 cup nuts. Cut into bars.
Chocolate Glaze: Heat 2 squares (1 oz each) semi-sweet chocolate and 4 cup butter in 1 1/2 quart saucepan over low heat until melted. Remove from heat; stir in 2 cups confectioners sugar, 1 1/2 tsp vanilla and 1 tbsp hot water. Stir in 2 or 3 tsp additional hot water until glaze is of proper consistency.
Variations:
Butter Pecan-Nut Bars: Substitute 1 pkg butter pecan cake mix for the chocolate cake mix. Glaze with Vanilla Glaze.
Cherry Chip-Nut Bars: Substitute 1 pkg cherry chip cake mix for the chocolate cake mix and frost with Vanilla Glaze.
Vanilla Glaze: Blend 1/4 cup butter , softened, 2 cups 10x sugar, 1 1/2 tsp vanilla and 2 tbsp hot water. Stir in 1 or 2 tsp additional hot water until glaze is of proper consistency.
