FANCY BERRY SAUCE
Category: Dessert Sauces
1 cup red wine
1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
1/3 cup sugar
2 whole cloves
1 cinnamon stick
1 pint fresh strawberries, washed and hulled
1 pint fresh blackberries, washed
1 pint fresh raspberries, washed
1 tsp vanilla extract
In a medium saucepan, combine the wine, lemon juice, sugar, cloves, and cinnamon; bring to a boil over high heat. Boil for 10 to 12 minutes, or until a light syrup forms. REMOVE THE CLOVES AND CINNAMON STICK. Add the strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, or until the berries begin to release liquid. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla. Serve warm, or cover and chill until ready to serve. About 2 cups
NOTE: Frozen berries will work well in this, too. It is great for drizzling over shortbread cookies, pound cake, or ice cream.
