GRANDMAS CASSEROLE

1 cup chopped onion
1 green pepper, cut into strips
1 clove garlic, minced
3 tbsp butter
1 1/2 lb ground beef
1 tbsp Italian seasoning
1 tsp seasoned salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 tbsp sugar
1 (28 oz) can stewed tomatoes, cut (Mexican or Italian)
1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
2 cups water
8 oz uncooked wide noodles
8 oz shredded mozzarella cheese
In a Dutch oven, saute onions, garlic and green peppers, in butter for 3 minutes. Add ground beef; breaking up as it cooks. Add seasonings and sugar. Stir in tomatoes, sauce and water. Heat to boiling; reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes.
In a 13x9 inch baking pan, put noodles on bottom; cover the tomato mixture and top with cheese. Make sure noodles are well covered by sauce. Cover pan with foil and bake at 350 for 45 minutes. Cut and serve as you would lasagna.
NOTE: May be prepared the night before; refrigerated and baked when needed. Freezes very well.
