BARBECUE SAUCE

2 tbsp oil
1 onion and green pepper, chopped
1 (19 oz) can tomatoes
1 tsp celery seed
2 cloves garlic
1/2 bay leaf
6 whole cloves
2 tbsp butter
Juice of one lemon
2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
Dash Tabasco sauce and cayenne pepper
2 tbsp maple syrup or brown sugar
Salt and pepper, to taste

Brown onion and pepper in oil. Add next 5 ingredients and simmer until vegetables are soft. Strain and add remaining ingredients. Serve hot or cold. Good on ribs.
