CHERRY-NUT CHIPPERS

1/2 cup butter and shortening
1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 cup whole-wheat flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 (12 oz) pkg semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup coarsely chopped pecans
1 cup snipped dried tart cherries, dried cranberries, or raisins
In a mixing bowl, beat shortening and butter for 30 seconds. Add the brown sugar and beat until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla; beat well. Stir together the flours and baking soda. Add to the beaten mixture. Beat until combined. Stir in the chocolate pieces, pecans, and dried cherries.
Drop dough from a generously rounded tbsp 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for about 10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Remove cookies to wire rack; cool. Makes about 50 cookies.
