BLUEBERRY GINGERBREAD WITH HOT SPICED BLUEBERRY SAUCE

1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 cup sour milk or buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
3 tbsp molasses
1 cup blueberries, fresh or frozen
3 Tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt

Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and mix well. Mix together flour, ginger, cinnamon and salt. Add to the creamed mixture alternately with sour milk, in which soda has been dissolved. Add molasses. Carefully fold in blueberries and pour batter into greased and floured 9 inch square pan. Sprinkle 3 tbsp of sugar over batter. Bake at 350 for 50 minutes to 1 hour. Sugar makes sweet, crusty topping when cake is baked.

Hot Spiced Blueberry Sauce
1 cup blueberries
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg

Combine blueberries, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg and bring to boiling point. Boil 5 minutes stirring occasionally.
