CHILI SPICED BRISKET

1 (4 lb) beef brisket
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1/4 tsp salt and pepper
4 black peppercorns, crushed
1 bay leaf
1 cup chili sauce
1 1/2 cups chopped onion
1 (10 1/2 oz) can beef broth
1 1/2 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/8 tsp garlic salt

Trim excess fat from brisket. Brown in hot oil in a large Dutch oven on all sides. Add salt and next 5 ingredient to Dutch oven. Combine broth and remaining 3 ingredients; stir well. Pour over brisket.

Cover and bake at 350 for 4 hours or until tender. Remove meat to serving platter; keep warm. Pour pan juices through a wire-mesh strainer into a bowl, discarding solids. Slice meat across grain into thin slices and serve with pan juices. Serves 8-10
