SPICY APPLESAUCE CAKE

2 cups flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tbsp baking cocoa
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp each ground cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and cloves
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup shortening
2 cups applesauce
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup raisins

Topping:
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
2 tbsp brown sugar

In a bowl, combine dry ingredients. Add shortening, applesauce and eggs; beat until well mixed. Stir in chocolate chips, walnuts and raisins. Pour into a greased 13 inch x 9 inch baking pan. Combine topping ingredients and sprinkle over batter. Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.
