CARAMEL BARS II

Crust and topping
2 lbs flour, about 6 cups
1 1/3 cups sugar
2 1/2 cups butter

Filling
2 cups butter
1/2 cup corn syrup
2 cups sweetened condensed milk
2 lbs packed brown sugar
1 cup chocolate chips

Crust and topping: Cut butter into dry ingredients until cornmeal-like texture. Reserve 4 cups mixture for topping. Press the remaining mix into bottom of a grease 13x9 inch baking pan. Bake at 300 until golden.

Filling: Boil first 4 ingredients in a saucepan, whisking constantly and continue to boil about 5 minutes. Pour over baked crust. Sprinkle remaining topping and chocolate chips. Bake until filling in the middle of the pan is bubbling and golden brown, about 35-40 minutes. Place another pan on lower rack to catch any drippings. Cool completely before cutting.
