Burgers
1 1/2 lbs ground turkey
1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
6 hamburger buns, lightly toasted

Preheat grill or broiler for medium, direct heat. In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, onion, garlic and pepper. Mix gently, but well. Shape into 6 patties.

Grill or broil burgers 4 to 6 inches from heat for 10 - 12 minutes, turning once. Cook until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F.

During the last several minutes of cooking, spoon 1/4 cup cheese topping on top each burger. Continue cooking until cheese is melted. Serve on toasted hamburger buns.

Bacon and Cheese Topping
6 slices turkey bacon, crisply cooked and crumbled
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1/2 cup thinly sliced button mushrooms, well cleaned
2 green onions, finely chopped (including green tops)
1/4 cup light mayonnaise

In a small bowl, combine bacon, cheese, mushrooms, green onion and mayonnaise. Mix well.
