CABBAGE SOUP WITH CHEESE

1/2 lb bacon, chopped
1 onion, chopped
1 bunch green onions, chopped
1/2 head cabbage, chopped
2 potatoes, peeled and diced
4 cups chicken broth
1 tsp marjoram, savory, thyme and sweet basil
Pinch crushed sage
Salt and pepper, to taste
4 oz Swiss cheese, shredded
2 oz sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 tsp dried dill
3/4 cup heavy cream
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
Saute bacon in a Dutch oven until partially crisp. Pour all but 3-4 tbsp fat. Add cabbage and onions to pan and saute 5 minutes or until onions are soft. Stir in next 9 ingredients. Bring to a boil. Immediately reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, 30 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Just before serving, slowly add cheese, stirring until melted, but do not boil. Add remaining ingredients and adjust seasoning.
