CABBAGE SOUP

4 slices bacon, diced thick
2 onions, sliced
1 turnip, sliced
2 carrots, diced
2 potatoes, cubed
1 heat cabbage, shredded
4 cups chicken stock
2 cups water
6 sprigs parsley
1 bay leaf
1/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated

In a pot, combine ingredients except cheese. Simmer partially covered for 1 1/2 hour to 2 hours. Discard the parsley bundle; season with salt and pepper, to taste. Pour into soup bowls and sprinkle with cheese.
