PORK CHOPS IN WHITE WINE SAUCE

4 pork chops, about 1 inch thick
1 1/2 tbsp butter or olive oil
1 small green and red bell peppers, each sliced crosswise
3/4 lb small button mushrooms, stems removed
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 tsp ground pepper
2 tsp salt
1 medium tomatoes, peeled, and quartered
1/3 cup dry white wine

Rinse and pat dry pork chops. Heat 1 tbsp butter or oil to a skillet and brown chops, 2 at a time. Remove and set aside. Drain fat from skillet and add 1/2 tbsp butter or oil and saute vegetables and garlic until tender, about 8 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Return chops to skillet on top of vegetables. Put tomatoes on chops and pour wine over mixture. Cover skillet and simmer for 40-45 minutes, or until chops are done. Serve each chop topped with a spoonful of wine sauce and garnish of the cooked vegetables. Serves 4
