1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
2 (1 oz) squares unsweetened chocolate, cut up
3/4 cup flour
1/4 tsp salt and baking powder
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup flacked coconut, coarsely chopped
1/4 tsp almond extract
1/2 cup chopped nuts
Preheat oven to 350. Grease a 9 inch square baking pan. Measure 2 tbsp butter in a small saucepan and add chocolate. Heat, stiring until smooth. Set aside to cool.
Sift together flour, baking powder and salt; set aside.
Beat eggs until thick and then gradually beat in sugar until mixture is fluffy. Beat in vanilla extract, then remaining butter. Fold in sifted flour by hand.
Measure 3/4 cu buatter into another bowl and stir in almond extract and coconut. Set aside.
Stir the melted chocolate and then the nuts into the remaining batter and spread into the pan. Drop coconut batter on top by spoonfuls, starting with edge, then spread out evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Cool before cutting into bars. Store covered.
