LEMON ALMOND BREAD

4 lemons
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
3 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
Pinch salt
1 cup milk
1 tsp almond extract
1 cup sliced almonds
Lemon glaze
Juice of 4 lemons
1/2 cup sugar
Preheat oven to 350. Great peel from each lemon and set aside. Save lemons for glaze. In a medium bowl, combine butter and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition, but being careful not to over mix. Add zest and mix gently.
In a separate bowl, combine dry ingredients. Alternate dry mix and milk to creamed mixture, mixing until well incorporated Stir in extract and nuts. Pour into greased loaf pan. Bake for 44 minutes to 1 hour. While bread is still hot, brush lightly with glaze where juice and sugar have been combined and heated until slightly thick.
