BEEF BARLEY SOUP

7 cups water
3 (10-1/2 oz each) cans condensed beef broth
1 lb beef stew meat, cut into 1/2 inch chunks
2 large onions, chopped
1 lb sliced fresh mushrooms
4 medium carrots, sliced
1 (14-1/2 oz) can diced tomatoes, drained
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 cup quick-cooking pearl barley
In a soup pot, combine all the ingredients except the barley; cover, and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the barley and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the barley is tender.
