GROUND BEEF AU VIN

1/4 cup finely chopped onion
2 tbsp butter
1 lb ground beef
1/4 cup softened bread crumbs
1 clove garlic, minced
1 egg
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper and crushed oregano
5 slices bacon
1/2 lb mushroom slices
1 tbsp butter
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup red burgundy
3-4 cups hot cooked rice
Preheat oven to 350. Cook onion in butter until tender. Mix cooked onion with ground beef in a mixing bowl. Brown bread crumbs and garlic in same skillet. Add to beef mixture, along with egg and seasonings. Mix until blended and shape into 1 inch balls. Fry bacon until crisp; rain on paper towels. Brown meatballs in small amount of bacon fat and place in 1 1/2 quart casserole. Cook and stir mushrooms in 1 tbsp butter. Blend in soup and wine. Pour over meatballs. Crumble bacon over top. Cover; bake for 45 minutes. Serve with rice. Serves 4-6
