BBQ SAUCE

1/2 cup canola oil
1/2 cup chopped yellow onion and chopped garlic
4 cups tomato purée
1 cup packed dark brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce
3/4 cup clover honey
3/4 cup ketchup
1/2 cup creamy horseradish sauce, tomato paste, balsamic vinegar and Dijon mustard
1/4 cup dark molasses, dried onion and garlic
2 tsp salt
1 tbsp freshly ground black pepper
1 bay leaf


Heat the oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat until hot. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and cook, stirring, about 1 minute.

Add all the remaining ingredients and 2-1/2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Simmer, stirring occasionally, for 20 minutes. Remove the bay leaf and let cool.

NOTE: The sauce will keep in a covered container in the refrigerator for 2 months.
