TANGY SHORT RIB BARBECUE

5 lbs beef short ribs
2 tbsp oil
1 cup onions, chopped
1 1/4 cus ketchup
3/4 cup water
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce and vinegar
2 tbsp packed brown sugar
2 tsp salt

Cut ribs into serving pieces, removing excess fat. Place on a rack in foil-lined roasting pan. Bake at 450 for 20 minutes or until browned. Reduce heat to 350.

Remove beef and rack from pan; pour off fat. Return beef to pan with rack. Heat oil in saucepan; saute onion for 2 minutes and then stir in remaining ingredients; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, 2 minutes; pour over beef. Cover, bake until beef is fork-tender, about 2 hours, spooning sauce over beef once. Skim excess fat from sauce in pan. Serve beef on a platter with the sauce.
