BAKED STEAK PARMESAN

1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
1 lb round steak, cut into serving pieces
1 egg, well beaten
Salt and pepper
3 tbsp vegetable oil, more if needed
1 medium onion, chopped
2 tbsp butter
1 1/2 cups tomato sauce
1 3/4 cup hot water
1/4 tsp crushed oregano
10 oz sliced mozzarella cheese

Mix together cheese and crumbs. Dip steak into egg; then salt and pepper. Coat with crumbs mixture. Heat oil in a skillet and brown steak on both sides.

In a separate skillet, saute onions in butter until limp. Add sauce, water and oregano. Bring to a boil for 2 minutes; remove from heat.

In a flat greased casserole, place a layer of sauce, layer of steak, and then cheese and remaining sauce. Bake, uncovered, at 350 for 30 minutes. Serves 6
