SAUSAGE AND MOSTACCIOLI WITH RICH CREAM SAUCE

8 oz dry mostaccioli or rotini
12 oz bulk sweet Italian sausage
2 cups fresh sliced mushrooms
1 small red or green bell pepper, cut into bit-size pieces
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, finely minced
1 1/2 cups whipping cream
1/2 tsp dried basil, crushed
Salt and pepper, to taste
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese

Cook pasta according to package directions, preferably al dente; keep warm. For sauce, in a large skillet cook sausage and next 4 ingredients until sausage is brown. Drain fat. Stir in whipping cream and basil; season with salt and pepper. Cook over medium-high heat for 5-8 minutes or until slightly thickened, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat. Stir in cheese. Arrange pasta on dinner plates. Spoon the sausage mixture over pasta. Serves 4
