AMARETTO BROWNIES

1 cup roasted almonds
9 oz semisweet chocolate
6 tbsp unsalted butter
6 large eggs
1/8 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
2/3 cup sugar
3 tbsp flour
2 tbsp brandy
2 tbsp amaretto
Sliced almonds
Glaze:
3 tbsp water
1 tbsp sugar
3 oz semisweet chocolate
1/2 tsp amaretto
Finely grind almonds. Use only 1 cup of ground almonds in recipe. In a heavy saucepan, melt butter and chocolate together. When melted, mix until smooth. Cool to room temperature. Beat eggs, salt and extract until thick and light in color. Fold in flour. Sprinkle in 1/2 cups nuts and fold in. Fold in melted chocolate mixture and brandy. Pour into a lightly greased 13x9 inch baking pan. Bake about 25 minutes. Cool to luke-warm in the pan on a rack. Loosen the edges of the cake, and invert onto a board.
Sprinkle slowly and with the amaretto until absorbed.
Prepare glaze: Combine water and sugar in a saucepan and simmer until sugar is dissolved. Add chocolate and simmer until completely melted. Stir until smooth and simmer until glaze coats the back of a spoon. Remove from heat and stir in amaretto.
Slice the brownies before putting on glaze and decorate with almond slices. Allow the glaze to set until firm.
