HOT CHOCOLATE BROWNIE TORTE

3/4 cup butter
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
3/4 cup sugar and packed brown sugar
3/4 tsp salt
2 large eggs
1 1/4 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
3 tbsp confectioners' sugar
Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream as an accompaniment.

Preheat oven to 350. Butter and flour a 9 inch round cake pan. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan and remove from the heat. Stir in the cocoa, sugars, and salt until smooth and stir in the eggs. Sift the flour and baking powder in the pan and combine well. Stir in the chocolate chips.

Spread the batter in the prepared pan and sift the confectioners' sugar on top. Bake in the middle of the oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a skewer comes out with crumbs clinging to it. Let the torte cool and cut it into wedges. Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
