CARAMEL PECAN PIE II

1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust
36 caramels, unwrapped
1/4 cup unsalted butter and water
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
3 large eggs, beaten
1 cup broken or coarsely chopped pecans
1 cup pecan halves
Preheat oventto 350. Melt first 3 ingedients and blend until smooth in a saucepan. Combine next 3 ingredients in a bowl and gradually add to the saucepan. Mix well. Add pecans, stir to blend. Pour the filling into the crust and bake for 40 muinutes or until edges of pie are lightly browned and top is puffed. Remove to wire rack to cool.
