CHOCOLATE BUTTERSCOTCH BARS

2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup unsalted butter, chopped
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
5 1 oz chocolate, melted
2 tbsp ground almonds

Topping
3/4 cup unsalted butter
1/2 cup sugar
2 tbsp corn syrup
3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
1 1/4 cups whole toasted hazelnuts
8 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 325. Grease a shallow 12x8 inch pan. Sift dry ingredients into a bowl. Rub in butter, then stir in sugar. Work in melted chocolate and ground nuts. Press mixture into prepared pan, prick surface with a fork; bake for 25-30 minutes until firm. Cool.

Topping: Mix first 4 ingredients in a saucepan. Heat gently until butter and sugar have melted. Simmer, stirring occasionally, unitl golden and stir in nuts. Pour and spread over base. Allow to set. Melt chocolate and spread over butterscotch layer; allow to set before cutting into bars.
