AU GRATIN POTATOES WITH SAUSAGE

1/4 cup butter
1 can cream of mushroom soup
2 cups sour cream
1/3 cup chopped onion
1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
7 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
1 lb smoked sausage, sliced
1 (2.8 oz) can French fried onion rings

In a saucepan, melt butter, stir in soup, sour cream, onion and cheese. Add potatoes and place in a buttered casserole dish and bake, uncovered, at 350 for 45 minutes. Remove from oven; stir in sausage slices and continue baking for 15 minutes or until potatoes test done and tender. Top with onion rings and bake 10 minutes longer. Serves 4-6
