*CARAMEL APPLE BARS II*

2 cups flour and quick cooking rolled oats
1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 1/4 cups butter, melted
Filling
1 1/2 cups caramel ice cream topping
1/2 cup flour
2 cups coarsely chopped apples
1/2 cup chopped nuts
Preheat oven to 350. Lightly butter a 15x10 inch pan. In a bowl, combine crust ingredients until crumbly. Press half the mixture, about 2 1/2 cups, in grased pan. Reserve remaining mixture for topping. Bake 8 minutes.
In a small saucepan, combine caramel topping and 1/2 cup flour. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Boil 3-5 minutes or until mixture thickens slightly, stirring constantly. Sprinkle apples and nuts onto warm base. Pour caramel mixture evenly over top. Sprinkle with reserved crumbs. Return to oven and bake 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely. Cut into bars and store in tightly covered container.
