WINTER SQUASH WITH ONION PECAN TOPPING

5 lb acorn or other winter squash
Topping
1 tbsp unsalted butter
1 medium onion, peeled, halved and sliced thin
3/4 cup pecan pieces
1/4 cup packed brown sugar and golden raisins
1/2 tsp cinnamon
Cust squash in sections, seed and cook in microwave or steamer until tender. Remove peel from squash and mash. Place in casserole. Melt butter for topping in a heavy 1 1/2 quart saucepan. Add onion and saute over low heat for 15 minutes or until onions are medium brown and tender. Remove from heat; add brown sugar, raisins and cinnamon. Spread topping evenly over squash. Serve immediately or cover and keep warm in low oven.
NOTE: Can be prepared ahead of time and warmed in over at 350 the next day. Good with roasted beef or chicken.
