CARAMEL NUT POUND CAKE

1/2 lb butter, softened
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1 (1 lb) box brown sugar
3 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp vanilla extract
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp baking powder
5 eggs, room temperature
1 cup pecans or walnuts, chopped
1 cup milk or buttermilk
Preheat oven to 325. Grease and flour a tube pan. Cream butter and shortening. Add the sugars a little at a time. Beat well until light an fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. . Sift together dry ingredients. Add to creamed mixture, alternating with milk. Add vanilla and nuts. Bake for 1 1/2 hours, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
