BEEF BURGUNDY

2 lbs beef round steak, cut 3/4 inch thick
1/3 cup flour
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp garlic salt
3 tbsp shortening
3/4 cup burgundy wine
1 cup water
1 stalk celery, cut in half-and-half
8 small onions
8 whole cloves
1 medium carrot, sliced 1/4 inch thick
1/2 lb mushrooms
Cut round steak into thin strips. Combine flour and salts. Dredge strips in seasoned flour and brown in shortening in a Dutch oven in batches. Stick each onion with a whole clove. Pour off drippings. Add wine, and next 3 ingredients to the beef. Cover and cook slowly for 30 minutes. Add carrot, cover and cook 15 minutes. Remove and discard celery. Add mushrooms, cover and cook another 20 minutes. Serve over noodles or rice. Serves 6
