1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 tbsp vanilla extract
3 1/2 cups flour
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

Beat first 4 ingredients until light and fluffy. Stir in dry ingredients gradually to butter mixture. Roll dough into 1 inch balls. Place on greased baking sheet 2 inches apart. Butter bottom of a glass and dip in sugar and flatten cookies. Bake for 10 minutes. Allow to cool on baking sheet 30 seconds before removing to wire rack to cool.
